I’ve stayed at The Hazels twice now with friends and have had a fabulous time. It really is a beautiful home away from home, in an idyllic setting.
The Hazels was in a great location for us, it’s peaceful surroundings made it the perfect escape from our noisy busy lives, whilst having local amenities only a short 5-10 minute drive away in Granton-on-Spey. It was easily accessible from both Inverness airport and the main train stations in the surrounding areas.
We have visited as both a party of 6 and 4, and both times felt equally cosy and comfortable. The kitchen-dinning room allowed us a very socialble and comfortable area where we could spend time before and after our days activities, chatting and entertaining. We had a fantastic time cooking for each other in the well equipped kitchen, it had everything we needed for our stay, one afternoon we even baked scottish shortbread, taken from one the recipe books there.
We used the beautiful log fire whilst we were there in January, it really did add that extra special touch to the living room, whilst we sat there in the evenings. We mostly made use of the huge selection of games and jigsaws that were there, as well as the great dvd collection. Whilst visiting in August last year, we spent most of our evenings on the patio, with a gin and tonic watching the sun set behind the scottish hills, whilst wrapped up in one of the cosy blankets, it was just wonderful.
The bedrooms were all great, and beautifully decorated to a high standard. During our holidays, we stayed in both the bunk bed room which slept 4 adults very comfortably, and then the green room as well, and loved it. The mattresses and bedding were really comfortable, and there was plenty of wardrobe storage for the things we had brought with us.
There were 3 bathrooms at the house so plenty of hot showers and toilets for everyone.
The Hazels has a great selection of maps and brochures, with fun and exciting ideas of activities for you to do during your stay. We spent a good part of our holidays walking and exploring the Cairngorms, and with the Speyside Way on the doorstep, and the Malt Whiskey Trail not far, it was a beautiful setting for it. We loved going to Avimore resort, and making our way up the CairnGorm mountain to the top. We visited some of the many small, quaint towns and nearby forests and lochs, the Reindeer Park, and were even fortunate enough to see the National Huskey Dog Sledging Championships this winter. We really did have two relaxing but also fun filled weekends, and hopefully would love to be back again one day.
We had a really lovely visit with family, and found the house really sociable and a lovely place to be. It was really easy to find, and the directions were very clear. The kitchen and living room both had lovely views, and we could see how great it would be in the summer on the terrace out front. Wifi was great with no blind spots. It was really lovely sociable space for chatting while cooking and eating and sitting round the fire (we didn’t turn the TV on once!). The fire was lovely. Sofas were all very comfy, and the layout was very nice for chatting. The box of games was welcome (we took our own too, but a drunken game of Olympic rules Jenga was a bit of a winner). The beds were all very comfortable, and the towels and bed linen were nice quality.
