Local Area Information


Cromdale is a small village located in the Cromdale hills, in the spectacular Cairngorms National Park. The village features extensive views over Strathspey and the surrounding valleys. Several beautiful and dramatic hikes can be accessed within minutes walk of the property, including the famous Speyside way and the Angach woods. The house is also on the Malt Whiskey Trail and is within ten minutes walk of a working gin distillery. A community cafe is run every weekday morning in the village hall. 


Accessed through a scenic 2 mile walk through the Anaagach woods, or a quick five minute drive from The Hazels, Grantown-on-Spey is a traditional Highland town with a range of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Set on the river Spey and surrounded by ancient woodlands, there are numerous beautiful walks and trails around the village. Grantown-on-Spey holds an annual Hogmanay celebration in the town square, where you can enjoy music, dancing, haggis and mulled wine, topped off with a brilliant fireworks display. 

The Cairngorms National Park 

The largest national park in the UK, and home to five of the six highest mountains in Scotland, the Cairngorms is a spectacular area to explore. 

49 per cent of the park has been recognised as being of international importance for nature, and is protected by European Law. There are three big rivers in the park and around 60 lochs. The Cairngorm plateau has the most extensive range of artic landscape in the British Isles.
